AMENITIES & ACTIVITIES

This property is special for many reasons. 4 Native American tribes like the Navajo, Jiccoria-Apache, the Utes & the Lakota have lived in this area for millennia before parents of the famous William Price family homesteaded it in late 1800s and named it Chromo- which means "colorful" in Greek. Price wrote many books on the local wildlife and has the Price Lakes named after him in the surrounding San Juan National Forest. The natural beauty, convenient location and unique architectural details make it a special experience for any guest.

Guests can hike up the forest trails in the San Juan National Forest with the access road being just a mile from the ranch. Soak in 360 degree views of the Archuleta Mesa, the Banded peaks that are a part of the Continental Divide and the many local attractions making this a great year around place to visit. During the summer months enjoy river rafting, local food & music festivals, kayaking and tubing in nearby Pagosa Springs with its fun restaurants. Wolf Creek lake and other water bodies allow for kayaking and boating activities. Visit the Pagosa Springs visiter center online and the Chama visitor page in NM for local events and tourist attractions like the single gauge railroad ride that takes you across scenic parts of these mountains. Don't forget the famous hot springs in Pagosa or the winter railroad ride between Durango and Silverton!

Onsite Activities at the ranch: you can tube down the Navajo river or fly fish  for the trophy trout in it- all 3 native types of trouts like the browns, rainbows and cut throats can be found flourishing here. The pond on the property near the River House is also stocked with trout and a local delicacy called crawdads. Outfitters are available to take you camping and horse riding in the San Juan National Forest and other areas or organize a fly fishing camp as needed.  We can also have a horse drawn rides organized on site for large groups or husky sled rides in the winter months.

During Spring and Fall months you can enjoy hunting for turkey, elk and deer in the national forests and the Winter season brings all the skiing and snow boarding fun with equipment rental facilities in both Pagosa Springs and the Wolf Creek ski resort that's about 35 miles from the Sohum Mountain ranch (The Ranch). The fly fishing on the Navajo river attracts anglers from all over the world to top off all the outdoor activities besides the fresh mountain air. The Ranch sits on an aquafir so you enjoy sweet mountain drinking water besides fishing for succulent crawdads (cousins to the Louisiana Crawfish & Texan mudbugs) in the onsite pond for some delicious broils. Have an unforgettable experience on the short gauge railroad ride over the peaks in nearby Chama on the New Mexico side or visit the casino and restaurant at the Apache - Jiccoria reservation in Dulce thats just 25 miles away.
